Federal Wood & Pellet Stove Tax Credit: Ended December 31, 2025

The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) let homeowners claim 30% of the cost of a qualifying high-efficiency wood or pellet stove, up to $2,000 a year, for products placed in service from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025. Congress ended the credit for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, and the IRS now states it is not available for later installations (IRS: Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit). A stove or insert installed in 2026 does not qualify — we would rather tell you that plainly than sell you a credit that no longer exists. If a new federal or Illinois incentive appears, this page will change the same week.

Installed in 2025? How to Claim It on Your 2025 Return

The credit applied to primary and secondary residences. The IRS page for the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit is the authority on eligibility and deadlines; we are fireplace people, not tax advisers, so please confirm your own situation with yours.

Products That Qualified (2023–2025)

Looking at a wood or pellet stove for this winter? The federal credit is gone, but the reason to upgrade is not: a modern EPA-certified stove burns cleaner and needs less wood for the same heat than the unit it replaces, and we sell, install and service every model listed above. See our current offers and financing on the Specials & Financing page, or come see the models in the Downers Grove showroom.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Our 30+ year old fireplace needed quite a bit of TLC. The previous owners indiscriminantly mixed use of wood and gas logs. The whole set up sat dormant for 4-5 years, too. Hudson helped explain step by step how we could get it back in perfect working order, and even helped me out on cost by showing me what I could do myself. One thing I really liked...safety is their #1 priority. Great work guys!

I called to schedule an appointment to have a new vent-free gas log set installed (to replace an existing one) and Hudson was at my place the next morning. He had it done in about 45 minutes. He's very friendly and informative and did a great job. He took the time to explain all sorts of things about the fireplace and how to use and maintain it even appearance of it. He'll be the first one I call next time.

To begin with I was pleasantly surprised by the showroom. There was a good variety of fireplaces, ceramic logs, and all the things one can associate with fireplaces. Mr. Beaudy, the salesman, is very knowledgeable and he was able to quickly point us toward the kind of fireplace logs we were looking for. He also showed us how to safely light the fireplace and other safety considerations.

Hudson is very professional and and knowledgeable about gas fireplace inserts. I called him and he was able to come right over. He explained each step of his service call. I never felt like he was trying to fix something that wasn't broke. I highly recommend his business!
