Come and stand in front of one. A photograph flattens a fireplace — the only way to know whether a unit is the right size for your wall, and whether the finish works with your room, is to be standing next to it. Our showroom is on 75th Street in Downers Grove, and we are open seven days a week, Sunday afternoons and Mondays included.

What is on the floor

Come and stand in front of one. The gas and wood displays are not lit — the electric ones are switched on — so what you are judging in person is size, proportion, materials and finish against your own room, which is the part photographs get wrong. For the flame itself, many of the models in our catalog have a manufacturer burn video: use the “Watch the fire” filter on the catalog to see only those.

Gas fireplaces and inserts

The largest part of the range: 83 gas fireplaces and 10 inserts, traditional through linear, plus gas stoves.

Gas logs

183 log sets, vented and vent-free, with burners, grates and remote ignition.

Electric

18 electric fireplaces for rooms with no gas line and no chimney to work with.

Wood and pellet

Wood fireplaces, inserts and stoves, and pellet inserts and stoves.

Alongside those: fireplace doors and screens, outdoor fire pits and burners, and custom mantels and surrounds. The whole range — 701 products from 19 makers — is in the online catalog. The floor holds a selection of it, so if there is a specific model you have your heart set on, call first and we will tell you straight whether it is here.

Twelve of the nineteen makers we carry; the brand directory has them all. Browse them in the brand directory, or filter the whole catalog by brand, fuel, size and venting.

What to bring with you

Ten minutes of preparation turns a browse into a real answer. With these four things we can usually tell you what will fit, what it will take to vent it, and roughly what is involved — before you leave.

  1. A photo of the wall, taken straight on. From across the room, with something recognizable in shot for scale — a chair, a door, a person.
  2. Three measurements. The width of the existing opening or of the wall you want to use, the height you have available, and the depth behind it.
  3. How the room is fueled and vented. Is there a gas line nearby? An existing chimney or flue? If you are not sure, photos of the firebox and of the chimney from outside will answer it for us.
  4. Whoever else gets a vote. Finish is the thing households disagree about, and it is far easier to settle standing in front of two of them than over a phone screen.

Walk in, or book an hour

Walk-ins are welcome every day we are open. If you would rather have one person’s full attention at a set time — particularly if you are bringing plans, a builder or a room that is still being built — book an appointment and we will keep the hour free.

Still deciding? Call 630-241-1919 — we will talk you out of the wrong one.

Before you drive over

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in on any day we are open. Book a time only if you want one person’s undivided attention, or if you are coming from a distance and want to be sure someone is free.

Are the fireplaces lit?

The gas and wood displays are not lit, and that is deliberate; the electric fireplaces are switched on, so their flame effect is the one you can watch in person. What a showroom visit is genuinely good for is size, proportion, material and finish against your own room. For a gas or wood flame, many models in the catalog carry a manufacturer burn video.

Will the model I want be on the floor?

The catalog runs to 701 products from 19 makers, and the floor holds a selection of it. Call 630-241-1919 before you set off if there is a particular unit you want to see.

Can you install what I buy?

Yes. We install and service what we sell, and we do chimney work — cleaning, inspections, and repair and restoration — as well.

Will you come to the house?

Yes. In-home estimates are free and itemized: we measure, look at the venting, and put materials and labor in writing so there are no surprises later. More on in-home estimates.
