Description
Individual cast concrete barn boards for cladding the fireplace wall, chimney breast or the area above the mantel in a shiplap-style stack of weathered planks. Five stock sizes up to 78 inches long and 10-1/2 inches tall can be mixed, cut and custom-narrowed to cover any field. Because they are non-combustible they can sit closer to the firebox face than wood siding could; how close is set by the fireplace’s own manual, and we check it before the layout is quoted.

7 standard colors: Brown, Silver, Graphite, WhiteWash, Ebony, Espresso, Wheat; custom colors available. Material: patented lightweight concrete planks replicating barn siding, hand finished. Non-combustible per the manufacturer: the wall board installation sheet (PDF) states ‘Non-Combustible ASTM E-136’ (‘Standard Test Method for Behavior of Materials in a Vertical Tube Furnace of 750 Degrees’). Installation per wall board instructions: apply ‘over cementitious or non-combustible wall sheeting’; high-temperature adhesive/silicone in combustible zones, construction adhesive outside them, trim-head screws with minimum 1″ stud penetration (or self-tapping screws to metal fireplace faces); fasteners maximum 32″ on center and within 12″ of board ends; cut with a continuous-rim diamond blade.

Magra Hearth — a Wisconsin maker of lightweight cast-concrete mantels, hearths and boards that look like reclaimed timber or chiseled stone but are non-combustible (ASTM E136), so they can sit closer to the fire than wood. Every piece is hand finished, so no two are exactly alike.
