Hitching Post Fireplace Surround

Description

A full three-piece surround — two posts and a rail — that frames a traditional fireplace from the floor up in the rough-sawn look of a Kentucky hitching rail. Non-combustible, so it can stand close to the opening; the posts trim to height.

Three pieces: a 5.5 in x 5.5 in top rail 78.5 in long on two posts 5.25 in deep x 5.5 in wide x 56 in tall; the posts can be cut down for a lower opening with a diamond blade

Deep weathered grain, tool marks, nail holes, saw marks, checks, splits and character knots on all three pieces. Maduro, Pale Honey, Eclipse (black), Weathered Grey, Roasted Chestnut — hand-painted; custom colours matched from the maker’s 150-colour library

About the maker

Lexington Hearth — a Lexington, Kentucky maker of fireplace mantels. Its non-combustible pieces are cast in a proprietary Burncrete™ formulation from moulds taken off historic Kentucky barn timbers and local stone, hollow-cored so two people can hang them, and hand-painted in a multi-step finish. Sold through dealers; we are one of them.

A non-combustible mantel can sit closer to the opening than wood; a wood mantel keeps the distance your fireplace’s manual asks for.
