A gas fireplace is a sealed, self-contained firebox that installs into new framing or an existing opening and runs on natural gas or propane — most direct-vent models need no chimney at all. This is the largest section of the showroom: 75 models from Travis Industries, Majestic and Urbana, from compact units around 20,000 BTU to great-room fireplaces rated past 40,000 BTU.Three decisions settle almost every gas fireplace: how big the room is, how wide you want the glass, and whether the fire should look traditional (ceramic logs, tall flame) or linear (a long ribbon of flame).
