Fireplace Store Serving Burr Ridge, IL

Burr Ridge is about 15 minutes from our showroom on 75th Street in Downers Grove. Most Burr Ridge fireplaces are the builder’s units from the 1980s and 1990s, and a gas insert or a new direct-vent fireplace in the same spot is the usual answer. Bring a photo of the fireplace and the room and we will tell you what fits.

Why Burr Ridge homes end up on our floor

Most Burr Ridge homes went up in the 1980s and 1990s, and they are big: two stories on a large lot, a tall family room, and often two fireplaces. Nearly all came from the builder as factory-made units, a metal firebox in a framed chase behind a brass and glass front. Thirty-odd years on, the panels are cracked, the doors do not seal and the brass looks its age.

A gas insert sized to that opening slides in, and the room gets real heat instead of a draft. Where you want a fresh look, we take the old unit out and put a new direct-vent gas fireplace in the same spot with a new surround: stone, tile, or a plain wall with the television above. That replace-and-reface job is the one we do most in Burr Ridge.

Burr Ridge also has plenty of new construction and big remodels, and those want a wide linear gas fireplace in a feature wall, a see-through unit between two rooms, or an outdoor fireplace on the patio. A finished basement with no vent path gets an electric fireplace. We carry 19 brands, Lopi, Majestic, Fireplace Xtrordinair, DaVinci, RealFyre, Dimplex and Modern Flames among them, each one hand-picked because it is reliable; the displays change through the year, so call first if you want to stand in front of one model in particular.

What we do for Burr Ridge

  • Design and installation

Taking the builder’s unit out of a Chasemoor or Ambriance family room and setting a new direct-vent gas fireplace in the same chase, or framing a wide linear unit into the feature wall of a teardown rebuild.

  • Gas inserts and gas logs

An insert sized to the builder’s opening turns a drafty 1980s family room fireplace into real heat; in the older masonry fireplaces along Plainfield Road and County Line Road, a vented log set keeps the open fire.

  • Chimney cleaning, inspection and repair

A Burr Ridge chase needs its cover, cap and flue pipe checked as much as a brick chimney needs its crown and liner; one visit covers cleaning and inspection, with a written report and photos.

  • Doors, screens, mantels and surrounds

Trade the brass and glass front of a 1990s unit for a black or bronze one, add a mesh screen, and finish a refaced wall with a mantel or a full stone surround. Browse fireplace doors or mantels and surrounds.

  • Electric fireplaces

For the residences above the shops at the Village Center, a finished basement, or a bedroom wall with no way to vent; the electric models on our floor are switched on so you can judge the flame.

  • Service and repair

Pilots and ignition modules on 30-year-old builder units, blowers that have gotten loud, cracked refractory panels, remotes, and a yearly service before the first cold night.

Getting to the showroom from Burr Ridge

From Burr Ridge, take I-55 west to Lemont Road and come north to 75th Street, or come across on 75th Street from Route 83. Either way it is about 15 minutes, and you never touch downtown Downers Grove; 75th Street runs along the south side of town. We are at 1202-B 75th Street, on the corner at Lemont Road: the B unit, with parking right out front, and no appointment needed.

Most Burr Ridge callers first ask whether the builder’s unit has to come out or whether an insert will go into it. The answer is on the metal label inside the firebox. Photograph that label, the whole front and the room from the doorway, and note the width, height and depth of the opening; with those we can tell you which way the job goes and narrow 19 brands to two or three. If you would rather start at home, the in-home estimate is free and written, and it is where we check the chase and the vent path.

Permits and inspections in Burr Ridge

The Village of Burr Ridge Community Development Department issues building permits, and its list of work that needs one names fireplaces; the details are on the department’s building permits page. Burr Ridge straddles the DuPage and Cook county line, and the village issues its own permits on both sides. Pulling the permit is our job: we file it, book the inspection, have a crew member there for it, and do not call the job done until it is signed off.

Fireplace types we install

Burr Ridge asks for these, in this order: direct-vent gas fireplaces to replace a builder’s unit, gas inserts for the openings that stay, long custom linear fireplaces for new feature walls, outdoor fireplaces for the patios, and electric fireplaces for basements and the Village Center residences. We also fit gas log sets in the older masonry fireplaces and install wood fireplaces and stoves. Find my fireplace gives you a shortlist before you drive over.

Questions we get from Burr Ridge

My builder fireplace has a brass front and cracked panels. Do I have to replace the whole thing?

Not always. If the firebox is sound and its label allows it, a gas insert goes in and gives you a new front and real heat in a day. If the box is done, or you want the wall changed, the whole unit comes out and a new direct-vent gas fireplace goes in with a new surround.

We have two fireplaces, one downstairs and one in the bedroom. Can you do both on one job?

Yes, and in Burr Ridge we often do. We measure both at one in-home estimate, write them up together, and the crew does both rooms on the same visit where the venting allows.

Does it matter that our house is on the Cook County side of Burr Ridge?

Not for the permit. The village handles permits for all of Burr Ridge, on both sides of the county line, and it changes nothing about the job or the models you can choose.

We are adding a room off the back. Can it have a fireplace with no chimney?

Yes. A direct-vent gas fireplace vents straight through the outside wall behind it, so a sunroom or family room on the back of a Burr Ridge house needs no chimney or chase through the roof. Where gas is not practical, an electric fireplace needs only an outlet.

Do you come out to Burr Ridge for chimney work?

Yes. Our chimney crew comes to you, and cleaning and inspection happen on one visit with a written report. That includes the metal chases behind builder’s fireplaces, where the chase cover and cap are the usual trouble spots. NFPA 211, the national standard, recommends a yearly inspection. Our guide to chimney cleaning explains what we look for.

Do you convert a wood-burning fireplace to gas in Burr Ridge?

Yes. A Fireplace Store and More converts wood-burning fireplaces to gas in Burr Ridge and across the western suburbs of Chicago — a direct-vent gas insert or a vented gas log set fitted into the existing fireplace, installed and serviced by the store's own team from the showroom at 1202-B 75th Street, Downers Grove. Every conversion starts with a showroom visit or an in-home estimate.
